BCIS webinar – Construction: what does the Autumn Budget mean for the industry?

Published: 01/10/2024

With the recent reduction in the base rate and inflationary pressures abating, there are reasons for the sector to be optimistic. But, as the collapse of ISG demonstrated, even the largest of firms can struggle and our industry needs as much support as possible to survive, let alone thrive.

Labour’s first budget is crucial for stabilising an industry that fears potential cuts to infrastructure projects, amid Chancellor Rachel Reeve’s efforts to plug a £22 billion ‘black hole’ in the nation’s finances.

Despite this immediate challenge, Reeves insists there will be no return to austerity and has promised to produce a budget of ‘real ambition’. But, from incentives for investment to addressing the shortages in skilled labour, can the government’s plans and policies deliver the support our industry so drastically needs? This post-Budget webinar will examine this question and assess just how much substance there is behind Labour’s pledge to ‘get Britain building again’.
