Covid-19 has affected the cost of delivery on existing projects

The main effects are:

  • Reduced staff availability from staff self-isolation and difficulties in travelling to sites, particularly using public transport
  • SOP requiring additional facilities

Following the Site Operation Procedures particularly the social distancing for example:

    • Changing the size of components to facilitate fixing by a single operative
    • Changing the size of components to allow two operatives to remain two metres apart
    • Mechanical lifting and positioning

There are some offsetting impacts:

  • Less crowded sites have allowed for increased productivity
  • Some changes in practices to facilitate social distancing have proved more efficient

It remains to seen whether on future projects the SOP will influence the design an specification of buildings to reduce the amount of onsite labour and manual handling.
