Decabonising the built environment

Decarbonising the built environment requires urgent action. While we’ve seen progress on the reduction of operational carbon emissions, the significant impact of embodied carbon remains under-addressed. The issue becomes even more pressing when we consider the government’s planned housebuilding surge.

The most efficient way to carry out whole life carbon assessments on projects is to measure and report on costs and carbon at the same time, avoiding time-consuming duplication of data collection and analysis. We believe that quantity surveyors, as cost experts, are best-placed to take on this combined role.

Our expert panel will explore how quantity surveyors can help drive whole life carbon reduction using tools like BCIS Life Cycle Evaluator, which has been developed in accordance with the RICS whole life carbon assessment for the built environment standard.

With a live showcase of Life Cycle Evaluator, which enables surveyors to assess upfront and whole life cost and carbon in one place at the same time, we’ll examine how cost experts can help ensure better-informed decisions that balance both financial and environmental priorities.
